Gridley Mayor and City Council

Gridley utilizes the Council/Administrator Form of Government.  The City Council is the governing body of the City. The five Councilmembers are elected at large by the voters of Gridley for four-year terms. The Mayor is elected by a majority vote of the City Council. The Council sets the policy for the City and adopts an annual budget. The Council appoints the City Administrator, Electric Utility Director, Public Works Director, Police Chief, and City Attorney.  Gridley residents are strongly encouraged to attend City Council meetings. Residents who wish to address the Council may do so according to guidelines noted on the front cover of the City Council agenda. The agenda is available outside the Council Chambers, at the City Administration Department, and the "Meeting Agendas" link below.  The City Council meets the first and third Mondays of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 685 Kentucky St. Meeting agendas are posted here the Friday prior to each meeting.

City Council Agenda's can be found below.  Complete City Council Agenda Packet hardcopies are available at the Administration Counter at City Hall.  The City of Gridley is proud of our strong tradition of providing the highest possible levels of transparency and having very approachable Councilmembers.  Our City Mayor and each of our Councilmembers strongly encourage residents and businesses to call them with any concerns, suggestions, and questions.  The Mayor and Councilmember's phone and email contacts are provided below.  Please stop by and say hello at an upcoming Council meeting.

Council Protocols

In November 2012, the City Council adopted protocols that set higher conduct standards for Councilmembers. These protocols establish rules for fair, open and ethical government that exceed standards required by State law.  Each Councilmember is responsible for observing and enforcing the protocols. ELECTIONS

How to run for City of Gridley Public Office

Candidates for local office must fulfill the following requirements: (1) be citizens of the United States, (2) registered voters, (3) live within Gridley city limits, and (4) be 18 years of age or older. Citizens interested in becoming Gridley City Council candidates will need to obtain nomination papers from the Butte County Clerk or Gridley City Clerk. 

When is the next Election?

General Municipal Elections are held every two years and the next General Election in the City of Gridley is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
